Desert wildlife Sanctuary

Desert wildlife Sanctuary commonly known as desert national park (DNP) found in Rajasthan, is one of the largest protected Areas of India. 

Protected Areas means a National park, a sanctuary, a conservation reserve or community reserve notified under sections 18, 35, 36(A) and 36(C) of the wildlife protection Act 1972.

Total Area of desert wildlife Sanctuary or Desert national park divided into four ranges viz. Jaisalmer, Miajlar, Barmer and satellite ranges pokran covering the total geographical area of 3162 km square. 

DYK: More than 100 bird species both resident and migratory, have been listed from the Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan.

DYK: The Desert Wildlife Sanctuary is also a place where the fossilized remains of 180 million-year-old forests were found, which has been preserved in the Wood Fossil Park at Akal, near Jaisalmer.
