CYCLE OF EROSION

Cycle of erosion given by American Geo-morphologist WM Davis in 1883. His observation was based on drainage of Pennsylvania. Davis postulated that a mountain raised from a geo-syncline which undergoes subduction. He postulated fluvial cycle of erosion. Davis proposed the concept of TRIO. TRIO stand for structure process and stage. Babies also postulated that as a land of lift above the sea level it is called pre youthful stage which does not undergo denudation.

Division model of cycle of erosion have three stages that is called youthful, mature and old stage.
Youthful Stage
- River depend their value by hard-ward erosion
- Drainage will expanded
- Regional landscape dissected
- V shaped Valley develop
- In the last of useful stage river are widened and relative relief increased
- Lakes in in original depressions venish
- Waterfall Venish
Mature Stage
- Longitudinal slope decrease meanders formed
- Denotation and loading of interfluves
- Lateral erosion of Valley
- Lakes and waterfalls completely Venish
- Sharp edges water devides vanish
- High drainage density
- In pre mature stage relative relief is maximum
- In post mature stage relative relief decreases
- Convex and free face slope disappear
- Rectilinear and gentle slope developed
- Meander and floodplains Plains develop
- Water bodies take form of circular region having convex slopes
- Drainage system adjust with structure
Old Stage
- Floodplain widened
- Covers with extensive Alluvial deposit
- River flows slow
- Water divides are reduced to to monadnock ( Made-up with hard rock)
- Bluff formed
- Level land called peneplain
